When it comes to fried chicken, thoughts of KFC, Popeyes, Arnold’s, Texas Chicken and many more others will come to one’s mind.
There are also western stalls in hawker centre and traditional Kopitiam (KPT) that sells fried chicken as well.
So, what constitutes a good fried chicken?
To me, the most important key factor of a good fried chicken is the crispiness of the batter.
I am sure different people have different definition when it comes to fried chicken. In my growing up days, I always love eating fried chicken from 可爱鸡, a chain outlet where you can find in hawker centre and KPT. What I liked most is their super crispy and flavourful batter.
In the past, their menu focuses mainly on fried spring chicken, chicken wings, 2 piece plate, 3 piece plate, etc. Over time, more and more variation items are being offered and they have now upped the level playing field by offering fusion menu as well.
The ‘atas’ version of the 可爱鸡 is now known as Tenderfresh Classic.
It has transformed itself from a stall in hawker centre or KPT to a restaurant style.
There are now more items being offered in their menu.
The garlic bread goes extremely well when it is dipped in the soup.
This is one of the better calamari rings that I have had. The squid ring is tender unlike some which is super rubbery and can chew till your jaw give way type.
Initially I thought it is meant to be a gigantic size onion ring but it turned out to be the usual onion ring with buffalo sauce. The sauce taste more like sweet chilli sauce that the sourish, spicy buffalo sauce that I know of.
This is one of their recommended pasta dish. Fusionly curated localized fried shrimp spaghetti.
Looks more like black pepper sauce spaghetti similar to the traditional Hong Kong style pasta. Anyway, the main star of the dish is still the crispy skin chicken chop.
The chicken skin is fried till crispily thin and the chicken meat is tender and pairs well with the brown sauce.
Sedap Nasi Lemak with the sambal sauce over fried chicken.
Woo…..this is real power. Crispily good and tenderlicious too. Perfect for sharing.
Served with fries and signature coleslaw.
The chicken batter is fried till perfection. My all-time personal favourite.
